950 Greene Avenue
The latest FUTURA project, which was begun in 2007 and which we are currently intensively developing, are residencies for young artists and curators in New York.
New York has become over the last four or five decades the main city for contemporary art, with a massive concentration of artists, galleries and art institutions. An artist residency in NY is pretty much a necessary step in the career of a young artist or curator. It's a unique change to get to know the latest trends in contemporary American art (and the art market), as well as to meet with interesting and innovative artists and art works from around the world. Each young artist (mainly from Central and Eastern Europe) able to create new projects and present them in NY can expect worldwide visibility that he or she - unfortunately - most likely wouldn’t get in his or her own country.
The old brownstone house on 950 Greene Avenue that FUTURA has graciously been lent for these purposes is located in one of the liveliest and fastest changing quarters of Brooklyn, Bed Stuy, home to one of the largest and oldest Afro-American communities in the United States. A residency in Bed Stuy means an opportunity for the artist to get to know the glitter of Chelsea and its galleries, as well as the lively multicultural essence of American reality and culture.
