No longer are we able to perceive them in their original state, they have now taken on new forms of existence. Artists Eugenio Percossi and Josef Čechota want to cause controversy. They want us to stop and reconsider what meanings have been lost.
About the authors
Eugenio Percossi: since 2008, I am working with the theme of "death" and I study its use and approach within the fashion world. Memento mori, a fundamental symbol in visual arts, have here become pure decoration. The form took over the content, which became empty and banal. Representations of Death are no longer an intellectual product, the starting point for a reflection on the essence of life, but a mere commercial product to be forgotten "when it goes out of fashion."
JOSEF Čechota, costume designer and author of the fashion collection created in reaction to Eugenio Percossi´s work, deals with "death" through his filmmaker´s practice. "Death by itself or fatal injuries are in movies, unlike life, only illusion. In stories on screen, blood isn´t blood - it's just paint and special effects." For the fashion collection untitled "Is death ... cool?", the author seeks to ascertain whether the death and its symbols in our lives are really so trendy...Throughout the whole collection, the author refers to the symbol of death in different epochs of humanity - from the Middle Ages to the future.
